(WNY News Now) – A 34-year-old Dayton resident was apprehended on multiple bench warrants by Cattaraugus County deputies.

South Dayton, N.Y. – The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bret M. Smith, 34, of Dayton, on January 21, 2025, following an attempt to execute a bench warrant in the Village of South Dayton. Deputies conducted the operation at approximately 11:15 AM on Oak Street.

During the investigation, authorities confirmed that Smith had multiple active bench warrants issued by Cattaraugus County Court. He was subsequently taken into custody without incident and transported to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office jail.

Smith remains in custody as he awaits further court proceedings. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
