(WNY News Now) – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Southern Erie County, warning of hazardous road conditions and significant snowfall through this evening.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Buffalo has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, effective from 12:40 PM to 7:00 PM EST today, January 24. Residents and commuters in Southern Erie County should prepare for lake effect snow that could bring an additional 3 to 5 inches of accumulation in the most persistent snow bands.

Impacts:

  • Snow-covered and slippery road conditions are expected throughout the advisory period.
  • Visibility may be severely reduced, particularly during periods of heavier snowfall.
  • The Friday evening commute across the Buffalo Southtowns could be significantly impacted by hazardous conditions.

The NWS urges drivers to slow down and exercise caution while traveling in affected areas. Snow-covered roads and reduced visibility may pose challenges, especially during peak travel hours.
