(WNY News Now) – A garage fire at 69 Steele Circle in the Town of Niagara on January 26, 2025, resulted in severe burns to one individual, the death of a pet, and the displacement of two families.
The Town of Niagara Police responded to a reported structure fire at 69 Steele Circle on the morning of January 26, 2025, at approximately 10:35 AM. Upon arrival, officers discovered the garage, residence, and an adjacent property fully engulfed in flames. A vehicle was found inside the garage, and a male individual sustained significant burns to his upper body. Immediate efforts were made to evacuate nearby residences to ensure the safety of residents in the surrounding area.
The Town of Niagara Active Fire Department quickly arrived on the scene and began battling the blaze. Despite their prompt response, the fire caused substantial damage to the property, and tragically, one cat perished in the incident. The SPCA responded to assist the pet owner with necessary arrangements.
The injured man was airlifted to Erie County Medical Center by Mercy Flight Helicopter for treatment of his severe burns. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced residents—two families, including three adults and three children—who were impacted by the fire.
In addition to the local fire department, several agencies responded to the scene, including the Niagara Falls Air Force Base, Sanborn Fire Company, Bergholz Fire Company, Mercy Ambulance, and Mercy Flight. The Niagara County Sheriff’s Department and New York State Police provided additional support.
The Niagara County Department of Emergency Management and a fire investigator from the Niagara County Fire Department have taken over the investigation into the cause of the fire.
