(WNY News Now) – Michael A. Trybuskiewicz, 41, of Akron, pleaded guilty to assault charges after dragging an Erie County Sheriff’s deputy during a failed attempt to flee from a traffic stop.

Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced that Michael A. Trybuskiewicz, 41, of Akron, pleaded guilty to one count of Assault in the Second Degree, a Class “D” felony, before State Supreme Court Justice Betty Calvo-Torres. Trybuskiewicz entered the plea on Tuesday, February 6, 2025.

The incident occurred on May 14, 2024, when an Erie County Sheriff’s Office deputy spotted Trybuskiewicz, who was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant, driving at the intersection of Route 93 and Route 5 in the Town of Newstead. The deputy attempted to stop Trybuskiewicz’s vehicle, but the defendant refused to comply with the deputy’s commands. In an effort to escape, Trybuskiewicz put the vehicle in drive and sped off, dragging the deputy in the process.

The deputy was injured during the incident and was subsequently taken to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital for treatment. The injuries included damage to his head, shoulder, ankle, and elbow. After the incident, Trybuskiewicz was apprehended by the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office and later charged in connection with the assault.

Trybuskiewicz faces a maximum of seven years in prison when he is sentenced on March 25, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. He remains in custody without bail pending his sentencing.

District Attorney Keane commended the efforts of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office for their swift investigation and commitment to public safety.









The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Megan E. Mahoney of the Felony Trials Bureau.
