(WNY News Now) – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple Wind Advisories for several counties in Western New York, warning of gusty west winds that could reach up to 50 mph from February 6 at 4-7 PM to February 7 at 10 AM EST.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Buffalo has issued a Wind Advisory, effective from 4 PM EST and from 7 PM EST on February 6 until 10 AM EST on February 7, 2025, for multiple counties across Western New York. Residents should be prepared for potentially hazardous conditions as west winds ranging from 20 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph.
The 4 PM EST to 10 AM EST advisory includes the following counties:
- Erie
- Niagara
- Orleans
- Genesee
- Wyoming
- Chautauqua
- Cattaraugus
The 7 PM EST to 10 AM EST advisory includes the following counties:
- Monroe
- Wayne
- Northern Cayuga
- Oswego
- Jefferson
- Lewis
- Livingston
- Ontario
- Allegany
According to the NWS, the strong winds may cause unsecured objects to be blown around and tree limbs to break off. This could lead to scattered power outages and pose risks for drivers, especially those operating high-profile vehicles such as trucks and buses. It is advised that residents secure outdoor objects and exercise extra caution while driving during the advisory period.
