(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has issued a Winter Weather Advisory effective from 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, through 4 a.m. Thursday, February 13 for several counties in Western New York. The advisory warns of mixed precipitation, including snow and ice, which could create hazardous travel conditions.

Forecast Details

  • Snow & Ice Accumulation: Up to 2 inches of snow and one-tenth of an inch of ice in Southern Erie, Wyoming, and the western Southern Tier.
  • Strong Winds: Gusts reaching 45 mph along the Lake Erie shoreline in Chautauqua County.
  • Icy Conditions: The highest ice accumulation is expected in interior areas of the Southern Tier, with little to no ice along the immediate Lake Erie shoreline.
  • Northern Counties: Niagara, Orleans, Northern Erie, and Genesee counties can expect 2 to 4 inches of snow with light ice accumulations.

  • Slippery Roads: Snow, sleet, and freezing rain will create dangerous driving conditions, particularly during the Wednesday evening commute.
  • Reduced Visibility: Falling precipitation may limit visibility, making travel more hazardous.
