Between January 4 and February 4, 2023, Ellison stole goods from six different retailers across four jurisdictions in the county. The thefts occurred on nine separate occasions, with Ellison apprehended only once, resulting in the recovery of stolen items. Throughout the investigation, authorities linked Ellison to eight other thefts, where he successfully took merchandise valued at $12,902.
Ellison pleaded guilty on November 20, 2024, to one count of Robbery in the Third Degree (Class “D” felony) and eight counts of Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree (Class “E” felonies). As part of his sentencing, District Attorney Michael J. Keane’s office requested that Ellison be required to sign Confessions of Judgment for each retailer and receive trespass notices barring him from entering these stores again. Judge Givens granted the request, issuing a verbal stay-away order.
In a statement, DA Keane praised the coordinated effort of law enforcement in bringing Ellison to justice. He commended Detective Christopher Lovallo of Cheektowaga Police, Officer Jennifer Szmania of Cheektowaga Police, Detective William Stowell of the Town of Hamburg, Detectives Ron Smith and Thomas Westbrook of the Town of Amherst, and Detective Jill Gallagher of West Seneca. These officers worked tirelessly to investigate and apprehend Ellison during his spree.
Assistant District Attorneys Christopher P. Jurusik and Rachel Schepart led the prosecution.
