(WNY News Now) – A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for parts of Western New York, including Chautauqua and Western Cattaraugus counties, until 2:15 PM EDT.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Western Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties in Western New York, effective until 2:15 PM EDT today. The warning was issued at 1:22 PM EDT after a severe thunderstorm was detected near Lottsville, approximately 11 miles southwest of Jamestown, moving northeast at a rapid 85 mph.

Hazards:
The primary threat from this storm includes 60 mph wind gusts. Radar data has confirmed the storm’s strength, and residents in the affected areas should prepare for possible damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Impacted Areas:
The storm will affect several locations, including Silver Creek Reservoir, East Randolph, South Dayton, Onoville, Perrysburg, Ellington, Mayville, Busti, Stow, and Long Point State Park. The warning also covers parts of major roadways such as Interstate 90 between exits 58 and 61, and Interstate 86 between exits 4 and 17.

Safety Instructions:
To stay safe during this severe weather, the National Weather Service recommends moving to an interior room on the lowest floor of your building, away from windows. If you are driving in the warned area, reduce speed and avoid sudden maneuvers. Seek shelter immediately if the storm hits.
