(WNY News Now) – AKRON, N.Y. — A 41-year-old Akron man has been sentenced to six months in jail and five years of probation for assaulting an Erie County Sheriff’s deputy while attempting to flee arrest, prosecutors announced.

Michael A. Trybuskiewicz was sentenced Wednesday before State Supreme Court Justice Betty Calvo-Torres after pleading guilty to one count of second-degree assault, a Class D felony.
The incident occurred on May 14, 2024, around 4:30 p.m. in the Town of Newstead. An Erie County Sheriff’s deputy spotted Trybuskiewicz, who was wanted on an arrest warrant, driving near the intersection of Route 93 and Route 5. When the deputy approached, Trybuskiewicz refused commands and attempted to flee, dragging the deputy with his vehicle.
The deputy was transported by ambulance to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, where he was treated for injuries to his head, shoulder, ankle, and elbow. Trybuskiewicz was later apprehended by the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.
Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane commended the Erie County Sheriff’s Office for their handling of the investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Megan E. Mahoney of the Felony Trials Bureau.
