(WNY News Now) – A 53-year-old Westfield man faces charges of aggravated animal cruelty after authorities found his neglected golden retriever in need of immediate veterinary care.

On March 25, 2025, at approximately 1:34 PM, deputies responded to a report of animal cruelty in the Village of Westfield, New York. Following an investigation, authorities determined that John Patterson, 53, of Washington Street, had failed to provide necessary care for his 4-year-old golden retriever.

The neglected dog was promptly taken to Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center for treatment and care. The veterinarian’s assessment confirmed the animal required medical attention due to Patterson’s neglect.

Patterson has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals under New York Penal Law Section 353A(1). He was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Village of Westfield Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
