Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced that 67-year-old Michael A. Osuch of Hamburg pleaded guilty to one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree, a Class “B” violent felony, in Erie County Supreme Court on Thursday. The plea was entered before State Supreme Court Justice Deborah A. Haendiges and satisfies the full indictment ahead of a jury trial scheduled for next month.

The charges stem from a violent domestic incident that occurred on Sunday, May 8, 2022, at the family’s residence on Bristol Road in the Town of Hamburg. According to prosecutors, Osuch first assaulted his 91-year-old mother, striking her in the head and body with an object. She managed to escape briefly and called for help before being dragged back inside by the defendant.

Emergency responders transported the victim to ECMC, where she was treated for serious injuries, including a fractured skull and head lacerations.

The situation escalated when Osuch’s sister, 72-year-old Christine T. Osuch, attempted to assist their mother. Upon entering the house to retrieve a towel, she was attacked by Osuch. She suffered severe injuries, including a fractured skull, a large head wound, and a brain hemorrhage. Christine Osuch was hospitalized at ECMC, where she died from her injuries on May 23, 2022. The Erie County Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide caused by blunt force trauma to the head.

Osuch remains held without bail. He faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison when he returns to court on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. for sentencing.

District Attorney Keane acknowledged the efforts of the Town of Hamburg Police Department for their work on the case.

The prosecution was led by Assistant District Attorneys Alexander J. Trunfio, Denise A. Herman, and Christine M. Garvey.
