Attorney General: “No one is above the law.”

(WNY News Now) – HARRISBURG, PA – Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced Tuesday that a Pennsylvania State Trooper has been charged with multiple crimes, including aggravated assault, for allegedly causing serious head trauma to an infant and engaging in a pattern of abuse against three children.

Christopher S. Young, 35, of Lancaster County, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and recklessly endangering another person following a joint investigation by the Attorney General’s Office and the Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Integrity and Professional Standards.

Young had previously been charged with felony intimidation of a witness, along with misdemeanor stalking and loitering, in connection to the same child abuse investigation.

Attorney General Sunday stated, “The alleged actions by the defendant are deeply disturbing, and my office intends to hold him fully accountable. When a sworn officer violates their oath, it is a stain on all officers who selflessly and professionally protect their communities.”

Young was arraigned Tuesday and released on $50,000 bail. He is currently suspended from duty without pay, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.

The charges stem from a September 2023 incident in which Young was reportedly caring for an infant who sustained a head injury requiring hospitalization, medical treatment, and physical therapy. The investigation also uncovered additional incidents involving two other children, including allegations that Young forcefully dug his chin into a child’s head, causing visible injury, and that he allowed children access to firearms.

In a related case, Young is accused of attempting to intimidate a potential witness by calling and texting repeatedly, then being found armed with a gun and knife near the witness’s home in Schuylkill County on the night of February 24.

The case is being prosecuted by Senior Deputy Attorney General Lauren Eichelberger.

All charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
