(WNY News Now) – A 6-year-old child reported missing in the Town of Pomfret on Saturday morning was safely found following a coordinated search involving multiple emergency response agencies.

POMFRET, N.Y. — A large-scale search effort was launched on the morning of Saturday, July 5, 2025, after a 6-year-old child was reported missing near the BOCES facility on Fredonia Stockton Road in the Town of Pomfret.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police were first on the scene after receiving the report at approximately 10:03 a.m. Due to the urgency of the situation, multiple agencies were mobilized to assist in the search effort. Responding units included the Fredonia Fire Department, Chautauqua County EMS, Alstar Ambulance Service, New York State Forest Rangers, Chautauqua County Technical Rescue Team, the County CAST Team, and drone teams from both the City of Dunkirk and City of Jamestown Police Departments.

Additionally, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office K9 Division played a critical role in the operation.

At approximately 11:59 a.m., a Sheriff’s Deputy located the missing child roughly one mile from the initial search location in the Canadaway Creek. The child was unharmed but was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital as a precautionary measure.
