(WNY News Now) – ELLICOTT, N.Y. – A Jamestown woman was charged following a shoplifting incident at Wegmans on October 9, according to the Town of Ellicott Police Department.
Police say 47-year-old Sarah E. Johnson was arrested around 4:00 p.m. after officers responded to a report of a theft at the Wegmans store. It is alleged that Johnson removed merchandise without paying for it.
During the course of the arrest, officers reportedly discovered that Johnson was in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine. She was subsequently charged with Petit Larceny and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree.
Johnson was released with an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Ellicott Court at a later date to face the charges. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
