(WNY News Now) – Police say a Jamestown man was apprehended with the help of bystanders after allegedly leaving a store with unpaid merchandise.
The Town of Ellicott Police Department has charged Ayomide Israel Akindo, 22, of Jamestown, with Petit Larceny following a shoplifting incident reported on November 14, 2025, at 12:00 p.m.
According to police, officers were dispatched after receiving a report that a man had exited a local store with a bottle of wine without paying. Authorities say Akindo was followed by several good Samaritans who kept him in sight until officers arrived.
Police took Akindo into custody upon arrival. He was later released with an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Town of Ellicott Court at a later date to answer the charge. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
