Jamestown police say a routine street check Thursday night escalated into a foot pursuit and weapons arrest on the city’s east side.
(WNY News Now) – The Jamestown Police Department reported that officers arrested a 31-year-old Jamestown man following a street check on January 8, 2026, that led to the recovery of an altered shotgun and multiple felony charges.
According to police, officers from the department’s Second Platoon were on patrol at approximately 9:23 p.m. when they observed a male subject commit a New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law infraction near the intersection of East 7th Street and Grant Street. Officers initiated a street check in order to issue a citation.
Police said the individual, later identified as Alvin J. Jusino Jr., provided officers with the name of another person in an attempt to avoid enforcement action. When officers asked him to identify himself again, Jusino fled on foot, prompting a brief foot pursuit.
During the chase, officers observed Jusino throw a backpack onto a nearby lawn shortly before he was taken into custody. A subsequent search of the discarded backpack led to the discovery of a shotgun that had been altered for concealment, police said.
Investigators stated that Jusino is a two-time convicted felon and is currently on New York State parole. His most recent conviction was for Attempted Assault in the Second Degree on a Police Officer in July 2024. Due to his felony status, he is prohibited from possessing firearms.
Jusino was transported to the Jamestown City Jail without incident, where he was held pending arraignment.
He is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, Criminal Impersonation in the Second Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. He was also issued a Uniform Traffic Ticket related to the initial infraction.
Jusino is scheduled to be arraigned in Jamestown City Court. As with all criminal cases, the charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
