(WNY News Now) – DUNKIRK, NY — A 42-year-old Dunkirk man was issued appearance tickets Saturday afternoon following a reported shoplifting incident that led to a brief foot pursuit, according to the Dunkirk Police Department.
Police said officers working the 3–11 p.m. shift responded to a business on East Fourth Street at approximately 4:51 p.m. on February 28, 2026, for a report of shoplifting. When officers arrived, the suspect had already left the store.
After obtaining a description from store personnel, officers canvassed the area and located a man matching the description walking nearby. Police identified the individual as Daniel J. Jennings, 42, of Dunkirk.
According to authorities, officers attempted to stop Jennings, but he fled on foot, leading officers on a brief pursuit. During the encounter, police said Jennings physically resisted arrest. After a short struggle, officers took him into custody without further incident.
Jennings was transported to Dunkirk Police Headquarters, where he was processed on the following charges:
- Petit Larceny (New York State Penal Law 155.25)
- Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the Second Degree (PL 195.05)
- Resisting Arrest (PL 205.30)
He was released with appearance tickets and is scheduled to answer the charges in Dunkirk City Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
