(WNY News Now) – HANOVER, N.Y. — A 62-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning after a traffic stop in the Town of Hanover led to driving while intoxicated charges, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies reported that at approximately 1:38 a.m. on March 29, 2026, a vehicle was stopped near the intersection of Alleghany Road and Route 5 & 20. The driver was identified as Carl F. Herb, 62, of the Town of Hanover.
Following an investigation, deputies determined that Herb was operating the vehicle while intoxicated. He was taken into custody without incident.
Herb has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), as well as violations for no or inadequate headlamps and no or inadequate plate lamps.
Authorities stated that Herb is scheduled to appear in the Town of Hanover Court at a later date to answer the charges. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
