(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — A Jamestown man was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after police responded to a welfare check on the city’s west side and determined he was allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
According to the Jamestown Police Department, officers from the 2nd Platoon were dispatched at approximately 4:00 p.m. on April 19 for a check well-being complaint at a west side apartment complex. The call reported an intoxicated male knocking on multiple apartment doors.
Police said the individual was observed staggering as he walked away from the building and entered a vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers located 41-year-old Joseph M. Grekalski seated behind the wheel of a running vehicle. Following an investigation at the scene, officers determined that Grekalski was allegedly operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
Grekalski was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Jamestown City Jail.
He has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and is being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
