(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo man is facing a federal drug charge after authorities allegedly recovered large quantities of suspected narcotics, drug paraphernalia, and a stolen shotgun during a search tied to an ongoing narcotics investigation.

U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced that Delmar Washington, 49, of Buffalo, was arrested and charged by criminal complaint with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. If convicted, the charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine.

According to the complaint, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating a drug trafficking organization operating in Buffalo since November 2025. During the investigation, law enforcement officials identified Washington as a suspected participant in the alleged drug trafficking activities.

On March 30, 2026, investigators executed a search warrant at a residence on Landon Street in Buffalo. Authorities reported seizing approximately 475 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine and 676 grams of suspected fentanyl, along with drug paraphernalia and a shotgun that had previously been reported stolen.

Officials also stated that investigators recovered approximately 3.5 grams of suspected crack cocaine and 3.5 grams of suspected fentanyl from Washington at the time of his arrest.

Washington appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge H. Kenneth Schroeder Jr. and was ordered held pending a detention hearing scheduled for May 19, 2026.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Donna Duncan. The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, led by Special Agent-in-Charge Farhana Islam, and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office under the direction of Sheriff John Garcia.

Federal authorities emphasized that a criminal complaint is only an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
