(WNY News Now) – A Jamestown juvenile was taken into custody after allegedly leading police on a 20-minute vehicle pursuit, while the juvenile’s parents were charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Jamestown police responded to the area of West Eighth and Cherry streets around 6:18 p.m. Thursday, August 13, after receiving a complaint about several juveniles riding electric bikes in the roadway and creating a traffic hazard.

Officers located one juvenile riding an electric bike near Washington Street and West Third Street and attempted to conduct a traffic stop for alleged violations of New York state vehicle and traffic laws.

According to police, the juvenile failed to comply and led officers on a pursuit through the southwest side of Jamestown. The pursuit continued for about 20 minutes before ending in West Ellicott.

Police said the juvenile was taken into custody without further incident and later released to another guardian. Additional charges remain under investigation.

The juvenile’s parents, 37-year-old Justin Barr and 37-year-old Monica Barr, were located shortly afterward and arrested. Both were charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, based on an allegation that they failed to exercise control of the minor.

Barr and Barr were being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court.

All charges are allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
