(WNY News Now) – The public is invited to a Sept. 14 ribbon-cutting marking the launch of the Jamestown Area YMCA’s new branch at SUNY Jamestown Community College and its partnership with the JAY Wellness Center.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — The Jamestown Area YMCA will officially celebrate its move to the SUNY Jamestown Community College campus with a public grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 14.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Physical Education Complex on JCC’s Jamestown Campus.

The new JCC YMCA Branch began welcoming members Aug. 17. The move shifts the YMCA’s membership-based wellness operations from downtown Jamestown to JCC’s athletic facilities on Falconer Street.

The JAY Wellness Center is part of a $48 million partnership between JCC and the Jamestown Area YMCA. The project is designed to expand access to health, wellness, athletics and youth development services in a shared campus setting.

The first phase allows YMCA members and area residents to use cardio and strength-training equipment, aquatic facilities and an indoor track.

Additional phases are planned. They include renovations to the JCC Physical Education Building, construction of a 52,000-square-foot health and wellness center, creation of an early learning childcare center and upgrades to the college’s existing athletic fields.

The name JAY combines the YMCA’s identity with JCC’s Jayhawk mascot. The partnership brings together YMCA wellness programming with the college’s athletic and campus resources.

The Sept. 14 celebration is open to the public, and RSVPs are not required. Organizers are asking those planning to attend to RSVP by emailing Foundation@sunyjcc.edu.

More information about the JAY Wellness Center and membership opportunities is available through SUNY JCC’s JAY Wellness Center information page.
