(WNY News Now) – A Newfane man has been sentenced to 2 to 6 years in prison after admitting he drove impaired by multiple drugs in a 2025 crash that killed his passenger.

Thomas H. Summers Jr., 53, of Newfane, was sentenced to 2 to 6 years in prison for Vehicular Manslaughter in the Second Degree in connection with a fatal crash in the Town of Lockport.

According to the Niagara County District Attorney’s Office, Summers admitted that he was driving a truck while impaired by the combined influence of cocaine, methamphetamine and oxycodone when the crash occurred July 16, 2025, on Lockport Junction Road.

His passenger, 48-year-old Rodolfo Espinoza, was killed in the crash.

Acting Niagara County Supreme Court Justice Mario Giacobbe imposed the sentence Sept. 11.

The case was investigated by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Vehicular Crimes Bureau Chief Christine Savoia and Assistant District Attorney Nichole Tarbell.
