HARTFIELD – An Ellington man reportedly struck an Amish buggy and horse on Route 430 Friday morning, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.
Timothy Spears, 55, was reportedly traveling east when his vehicle struck the buggy, operated by Mollie M. Byler, 31, of Hartfield.
Spears reportedly told deputies that he was blinded by the sun and did not see the buggy, which was also traveling east.
The buggy was completely destroyed, however, Byler only suffered a leg injury and was treated by Hartfield Rescue, according to deputies.
The horse reportedly suffered cuts and bruises, but was expected to survive.
Deputies said Spears was also treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries. Route 430 was closed for approximately 45 minutes.
