Olean Police Ask Residents To Stop Throwing Cigarette Butts Out Of Car Windows

Olean Police, Facebook.

OLEAN – More than ten mulch fires in the past two weeks have the Olean Police Department and firefighters asking residents to stop tossing cigarette butts out of their car window.

Police said these cigarette butts are mixing with the mulch causing the fires. They’ve been popping up in the medians of Downtown Olean on North Union Street.

Officials say they are tying up vital resources putting out fires that can easily be avoided and plan to begin handing out fines.

City Police will start actively enforcing this in the coming weeks.
