PORTLAND – Officials in the Town of Portland are continuing to ask residents to conserve water due to a water main break.

On Wednesday, the Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services announced that customers served by public water in the town and Village of Brocton should not use unnecessary amounts of water.

They ask residents not to fill swimming pools, wash cars or water lawns and gardens until further notice.

Officials say they are working with leak experts to locate and repair the water main break.

Currently, officials believe the leak is in an old water line between the old water tank on Route 5 and the newly installed water tank at the village’s water treatment facility.
