JAMESTOWN – A Jamestown High School sophomore recently placed first in the local VFW “Voice of Democracy” speech contest.

Madison Arthurs’ speech on “What Makes America Great” was part of a JCC college-level public speaking class.

“This speech gave me an opportunity to give my dad, the veterans, and those who are currently serving the recognition that they all deserve,” said Arthurs.

“Entering the Voice of Democracy competition improved my composition and public speaking skills,” she continued. “It boosted my confidence and reminded me how lucky I am to live in America!”

Her ‘Voice of Democracy’ speech will be sent to the next district VFW level to be judged.
