ALBANY (WENY) – State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats) on Tuesday, joined other members of the Senate Republican Conference in calling for the suspension of the state’s gas tax.

He is also opposing legislation, known as the “Climate and Community Investment Act” that could raise the gas tax by 55 cents and increase home heating costs by 25 percent.

The Senate GOP action comes as gas prices continue to climb sharply across the state and when home heating costs are projected to increase by more than 20 percent this winter.

According to the AAA, New York’s latest average gas price is $3.46 per gallon, compared to an average of $2.25 per gallon one year ago.
