Coronavirus Deaths Spike In Area

MAYVILLE – The number of those who died from COVID-19 made a dramatic increase over the past month.

According to data from the Chautauqua County Health Department, 18 deaths related to the virus were reported from October 31 to November 27 with nine reported just in the past week.





In nearby Cattaraugus and Warren Counties, 146 and 29 deaths were reported respectively.

The Health Department says 707 new cases of the virus were reported last week locally, with 276 of the cases in Jamestown.

Of those cases, 52 are hospitalized, up slightly from 50 last week, with the Western New York region as a whole reporting 503 hospitalizations.





















The level of community transmission remains “high” according to the CDC, with over 55 percent of new cases infecting those who are not vaccinated.

As for local vaccinations, over 58 percent of Chautauqua County residents are considered to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 according to New York State data.
