ELLICOTT – A Gerry man is blamed for a Christmas Eve crash that sent three people to the hospital in the Town of Ellicott.
The collision happened around 10:30 p.m. on Route 60 near the Jamestown exit of I-86.
New York State Police tell WNY News Now 32-year-old Kevin Watson was driving south when he crossed into the middle turning lane and struck another vehicle head-on.
Watson reportedly told troopers he was adjusting boxes inside of his vehicle before the crash and was not paying attention to the roadway.
Police say Watson was taken to UPMC Hamot Hospital via medial helicopter, while two 44-year-olds inside of the vehicle struck were taken to Hamot via ambulance.
An investigation into the incident continues, however police suspect Watson was driving under the influence of drugs. Investigators say the man has a history of a previous drug arrest.
Troopers have since secured a blood sample and are awaiting test results. Watson could be charged pending a further investigation into the crash.
I think it is irresponsible to report that this person was under the influence of drugs if you do not have any facts that confirm this. Will you be reporting that you were in error when the facts are determined?
Did not say “under the influence” it’s “suspected” like possibly. That is why the law secures a blood sample.
