JAMESTOWN – Heavy lake effect snow caused problems for some drivers on their way into work Friday.

Up to a foot of snow is expected in parts of Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties through 7 a.m. on Saturday when a Lake Effect Snow Warning is set to expire.

Travel was difficult at times on major thoroughfares including I-86 and Route 60 because of blowing snow that significantly reduced visibility. Similar conditions are expected during the evening commute as well.

Several area schools have also closed for the day, including Brocton Central Schools, Dunkirk City Schools, Fredonia, Forestville, Gowanda, Pine Valley, Ripley, Sherman, Silver Creek and Westfield Central Schools.
