JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Police Department has joined a regional search for a stolen SUV and six-month-old puppy dog that was inside at the time.

The Department posted the bulletin on their Facebook page on Monday.

Officers say a black Toyota RAV4, license plate GNS9506, was stolen in Rochester over the weekend. The owner’s dog Benny, a brown and white Havanese puppy, was in inside at the time.

Benny’s owner, Eric Berg, witnessed two people jump into his parked SUV. He then tried to chase after them, but could not keep up as the car sped away.

“I don’t want to get anyone in trouble, honestly I don’t care what happens to my car, I just want to pretend this never happened and just get my dog back,” Berg told Rochester NBC affiliate WHEC. “I was out of the car for less than a minute. I pulled right up on the curb, in front of the restaurant like I’ve done before and I wanted to keep him warm, so I left him in the car and I had my lights on.”

He has since posted a $2,000, no questions asked, reward for the safe return of his dog.

Anyone with information is asked to call police. Berg also says you can contact him at 585-210-3167 or can email pleasereturnbenny@gmail.com.
