RANDOLPH, NY (WNY News Now) – A local hair salon is stepping up to help those in need this holiday season.
Details Salon is collecting non-perishable items for the St. Susan Center in Jamestown through December 22 at their storefront, 137 Main Street, in Randolph.
Over the past year inflation, in dairy products especially, has caused a greater demand for St. Susan’s services. Over Thanksgiving alone, they served meals to nearly 100 people with the help of 16 volunteers.
At Details those who make a donation, like a canned food item, will be entered in a drawing to win a $50 gift certificate towards a free haircut.
Brainchild of salon owner Amber Olrogg and stylist Lisa Caswell, the two want to help those struggling.
“If it’s tough for us who are working, and things are going kind of well, imagine what it’s like for people who are not working, or things are not going well for them, or they have already been struggling and then the price of everything went up, you feel bad,” explained Olrogg. “If we’re cleaning out our cupboards, why not donate it to somebody who might not have anything.”
This is not the only collection event happening this week, on Thursday and Friday from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. the “Holiday Haul” will be accepting donations at the Jock Shop in Brooklyn Square in Jamestown for the St. Susan’s Center.
