JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY News Now) – There was fiery competition during a charity cook-off this weekend in Jamestown. In fact, smoke in the kitchen accidentally tripped an automatic fire alarm.

The second round of Channel 716’s TV Cooking Competition “So, You Think You Can Cook?” took place at the St. Susan Center on Saturday night.

Home cook Melissa Peterniti, caterer Marlene Lucas and Landmark Restaurant chef David Carlson took part.

During the main course preparation, Carlson accidentally tripped the fire alarm system while burning alcohol off of his pan. As a result, the Jamestown Fire Department responded to the automatic alarm.

“It was me, I know it was me,” explained Carlson. “You gotta take the alcohol off, I knew I had to do that, you gotta tip the fire, get the flame, and I knew right when it happened, it was going to go off.”

Next weekend, a new round of chefs will compete in the televised fundraiser which is open to the public with filming starting Saturday, March 11 at 6 p.m. For a $15 donation at the door, you support the Center, get a behind the scenes look at production, as well as be served soup, dessert, and a beverage.
