JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY News Now) – The court is set for this summer’s Gus Macker basketball tournament in Jamestown.
On Monday, the event’s host Collaborative Children’s Solutions announced the tournament will take place on Harrison Street between Foote Avenue and Main Street in Brooklyn Square.
Play for the three-on-three basketball tournament is scheduled to happen on Saturday, August 19 and Sunday, August 20.
This is the first time in several years the Gus Macker event will take place in Chautauqua County.
Organizer Patrick Smeraldo hopes to create a “festival like” atmosphere that focuses on including children from across the area.
“They’ve made it much much more kid originated,” explained Smeraldo. “They’re promoting the Macker Mites division, which is eight and under, they lower the baskets to eight feet. They have a unified division with students with disabilities that play in this now.”
More information on how to register to participate is posted online at macker.com/local/jamestown-ny.
In addition to Jamestown, a similar tourney is planned for the City of Olean in early June.
