MAYVILLE, NY (WNY News Now) – Chautauqua County is facing legal trouble over their State of Emergency, with New York State arguing that it constitutes as defamation.

Last month, County Executive PJ Wendel issued a State of Emergency for Chautauqua County due to the influx of migrants into New York State.

In turn, New York State filed a suit against Chautauqua County claiming that the county is excluding certain individuals.

In a response to the allegations the County Executive says that the county cannot provide services or assistance to asylum seekers.

He went on to say that no one from the state or federal government will get back to him on assistance.
