Lake Placid – Governor Kathy Hochul has introduced Ashley Walden as the incoming President and CEO of the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA). This decision follows a thorough search by ORDA’s directors. Walden, a former USA Luge athlete with Olympic and World Cup credentials, has held key leadership positions in sports administration, including her recent role as Executive Director of the Adirondack Sports Council.
Governor Hochul praised Walden’s sports knowledge and leadership, acknowledging the contributions of outgoing CEO Mike Pratt, who oversaw over $600 million in investments to transform New York into a global winter sports hub. Under Pratt’s guidance, ORDA’s venues, including Whiteface Mountain and the Olympic Center, garnered over a million visits during the 2022/2023 fiscal year, generating substantial economic impact. Walden’s task will be to build on this legacy.
Walden’s achievements both as an athlete and a leader have been acknowledged by international and national sports figures. The Olympic Authority’s Board of Directors views her as a successor who can amplify ORDA’s successes. Governor Hochul’s 2023/2024 Executive Budget includes $92.5 million for further venue improvements and maintenance. With Walden’s expertise, ORDA aims to sustain its role as a driver of economic growth and winter sports excellence.
