Chautauqua County, N.Y. – Chautauqua County law enforcement agencies played a pivotal role in the statewide effort to curb impaired driving during the New York State STOP-DWI Thanksgiving High Visibility Engagement Campaign, held from November 22 to November 26, 2023. The initiative, funded by a 2023-2024 grant from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, aligns with the national High Visibility Engagement Campaign.

In a concerted effort to enhance road safety, the Chautauqua County Sheriff, municipal law enforcement agencies, and the New York State Police collaboratively enforced driving laws related to impairment. The focus was specifically on reducing incidents of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, aiming to mitigate the occurrence of impaired driving injuries and fatalities.

Throughout the Thanksgiving period, the combined efforts of these agencies in Chautauqua County resulted in a total of 24 vehicle stops. Additionally, 11 Vehicle & Traffic tickets were issued, and 2 individuals were arrested for driving under the influence. Chautauqua County Sheriff James B. Quattrone emphasized the significance of these measures, stating, “Removing intoxicated drivers from Chautauqua County roadways is one of our top priorities. If you choose to drink, don’t drive. Impaired drivers not only put themselves in danger, they threaten everyone who shares the road with them.” The campaign reflects the ongoing commitment of local authorities to prioritize public safety on the roads.
