(WNY News Now) – Cattaraugus County – Forest Rangers from the Village of Gowanda in Cattaraugus County undertook a comprehensive patrol of Zoar Valley Multiple Use Area via kayak on Dec. 28, focusing on permit checks, kayaker safety, and swiftwater rescue skills practice.
On December 28, three skilled Forest Rangers navigated the challenging waters of Zoar Valley, a region known for flash floods and imposing cliff walls. Covering five miles by kayak, the Rangers vigilantly inspected permits, ensured the safety of fellow kayakers, and honed swiftwater rescue techniques. The unique topography of Zoar Valley mandates such patrols, as certain areas are only accessible by raft or kayak during periods of elevated water levels.
