(WNY News Now) – Jamestown, NY – The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s 4-H Youth Development Program celebrated the talents of 88 youth aged 5-18 at the annual Public Presentation contest, held at Jamestown Community College on January 27, 2024.

The event showcased diverse topics, ranging from historical events like the sinking of the RMS Titanic and the War of Gettysburg to engaging subjects such as “What’s on the Dinosaur Menu”. Utilizing various presentation styles, including demonstration, illustrated talk, speech, dramatic interpretation, and recitation, participants displayed their skills and knowledge.

Aligned with the values of the New York State 4-H Youth Development, the contest emphasized public speaking as a crucial skill for personal and professional success. Evaluators, composed of volunteer teams, provided constructive feedback to each participant, fostering communication skills, self-confidence, and subject matter expertise.

Exceptional presenters, including Tianna Bova, Donald Easton, Kendall Eckman, Logan Ellsworth, Katherine Fortna, Drake Joy, Caitlyn Kriner, Garrett Lesch, Lincoln Porebski, Madalyn Reading, Emma Ribaudo, and Lolita Ribaudo, were selected to advance to the Western District Public Presentation Day contest at Springville Griffith Institute High School on March 23rd.

This platform not only recognizes local talents but also serves as a stepping stone for participants to potentially engage in state-level competitions, promoting further development in public speaking. Chautauqua County 4-H youth members continue to hone their presentation skills through various opportunities, including club and animal projects, as well as at the 4-H Youth Building at the Chautauqua County Fair.

In a commendable display of courage and preparation, participants demonstrated the significance of public speaking in personal growth. The Cooperative Extension congratulates all participants for their remarkable contributions on Public Presentation Day.
