(WNY News Now) – The Village of Westfield celebrates a significant boost for its Downtown Redevelopment Project as it secures a grant of $131,514 from the Appalachian Regional Commission.
The Village of Westfield has received a substantial grant of $131,514 from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) to support its Downtown Redevelopment Project. The project aims to revitalize a vacant lot adjacent to the waterfront, with plans to construct a 300-seat amphitheater and park space. These developments are expected to breathe new life into downtown Westfield, fostering opportunities for diverse events and programming.
“Westfield is situated near beautiful Lake Erie and serves as a hub for tourists and Chautauqua County residents alike,” said Congressman Langworthy. “This grant will revitalize the downtown area by creating an event space, improving pedestrian access, and expanding parking options — which will encourage economic growth and support local businesses. Projects like the Westfield Downtown Redevelopment are essential to combating population loss and unemployment rates in the Southern Tier, and I’m committed to fighting for more of these opportunities for our region.”
Furthermore, the project includes the construction of formal access to the Chautauqua Creek waterfront and the Welch Trail, which are anticipated to attract visitors and stimulate economic growth. Alongside the ARC funds, local contributions amounting to $30,000 and state funding totaling $450,040 will bring the total project financing to $611,554.
