The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is reviewing an application from Regan Development Corp. to clean up and redevelop a contaminated site at 166 East 4th Street in Dunkirk.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has received a Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) application from Regan Development Corp. for the site located at 166 East 4th Street, Dunkirk. Identified as site ID #C907051, this initiative aims to transform a contaminated property into a usable space, contributing to the economic revitalization of the Chautauqua County area.

Residents and stakeholders can access the application and related documents online through the DECinfo Locator or at the Dunkirk Public Library, located at 536 Central Avenue. The DEC is encouraging public participation in the review process and has opened a comment period that ends on July 5, 2024. Comments can be submitted to Project Manager Michael Keller via mail, email, or phone.

New York’s Brownfield Cleanup Program, established in 2003, is a cornerstone of the state’s efforts to remediate and repurpose contaminated sites. It provides financial incentives to private developers to clean up brownfields, thereby promoting redevelopment and economic growth. To date, the program has facilitated the cleanup of over 500 sites and continues to support more than 550 active projects.

The proposed cleanup at 166 East 4th Street represents a significant step towards restoring and revitalizing the local community. The initiative not only aims to address environmental concerns but also to spur economic development and improve the quality of life for Dunkirk residents.
