A routine gunshot complaint in Jamestown escalated into the arrest of an 18-year-old for multiple weapons charges early this morning.

In the early hours of June 12, 2024, at approximately 1:11 AM, officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s third platoon responded to a gunshot complaint near Broadhead Ave and Kidder St. Upon arrival, they encountered a male suspect matching the description provided by witnesses. The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Anthony V. Rivera of Jamestown, attempted to flee the scene by getting into a vehicle.

Despite numerous orders to exit the vehicle, Rivera refused to comply. Officers were eventually forced to remove him from the vehicle and placed him into custody without further incident. A subsequent search revealed that Rivera was carrying a loaded firearm equipped with a high-capacity magazine. The weapon was later confirmed to be stolen from the Lakewood-Busti Police Department.

Rivera was transported to the Jamestown Police Department and is currently being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. He faces multiple charges, including Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd and 3rd degrees, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th degree, and Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd degree.
