(WNY News Now) – New York – The Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) announced that Governor Kathy Hochul has appointed Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud to DASNY’s Board of Directors. 

Chancellor Syverud is the 12th Chancellor and President of Syracuse University. During his eleven years as Chancellor, he has stewarded the University during a period of transformational change and growth with record applications and enrollment. With his vision, Syracuse University has become the one of the best private universities for veterans, tripling enrollment of veterans and military-connected families. Embracing innovation, Chancellor Syverud oversaw Syracuse’s launch of one of the first online J.D. degree programs in the nation. A noted legal scholar who served as Law Dean at both Vanderbilt University and Washington University, Chancellor Syverud continues to teach at Syracuse University’s College of Law and Whitman School of Management. 

DASNY Board Chair Lisa Gomez said, “We are so pleased to have Chancellor Syverud joining DASNY’s board. His exceptional leadership of Syracuse University, coupled with his broad perspective and deep knowledge of Central New York, will be invaluable to DASNY’s work of supporting health care and educational institutions and nonprofit organizations all across our state.”

DASNY President and CEO Robert J. Rodriguez said, “DASNY is honored to welcome Chancellor Syverud to our Board. As the leader of a pivotal Central New York institution, he brings a wealth of experience, insight and accomplishment that will significantly influence DASNY’s strategic direction and decision-making.”

Chancellor Syverud said, “I am grateful to Governor Hochul for providing me the opportunity to serve my fellow New Yorkers. I look forward to working with the gifted leaders on the Board of Directors and DASNY’s talented leadership team to accomplish great things for Central New York and all of New York State.”

Chancellor Syverud led the restructuring of governance of the Atlantic Coast Conference, serving as Chair of the Board of Directors (2019-2021). He serves on the Boards of Crouse Health System and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, and previously served as Commissioner for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and co-Chair of the Regional Economic Development Council for Central New York. In 2016, he completed six years as the Independent Trustee of the $20 billion Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Trust.
