North Tonawanda man arraigned for fatal stabbing on Kenmore Avenue

A North Tonawanda man faces serious charges after a fatal stabbing incident on Kenmore Avenue. Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced the indictment of 28-year-old John A. Rudes on one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class “A-I” felony.

On the early morning of Sunday, September 17, 2023, Buffalo Police responded to a distressing 911 call reporting a stabbing on the 1000 block of Kenmore Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 59-year-old Terry Jackson lying on the front steps of an apartment building, gravely injured. Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene, having suffered multiple stab wounds to the neck.

Rudes is accused of intentionally causing Jackson’s death. He was arraigned yesterday morning before Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan. Rudes is currently held without bail and is scheduled to return to court for a pre-trial conference on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 10:30 a.m.

If found guilty, Rudes could face a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison. The prosecution of the case is being handled by Assistant District Attorneys Rebecca L. Schnirel and Jordana C. Grosodonia.

Acting DA Keane praised the Buffalo Police Department for their thorough investigation into the incident. He also emphasized that Rudes, like all individuals accused of a crime, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
