(WNY News Now) -LAKEWOOD, NY — Chautauqua Lake Association (CLA) crews have impressively removed over 3,000 tons of nuisance aquatic vegetation from Chautauqua Lake this summer, surpassing last year’s progress.
With three crews stationed at Mayville, Long Point State Park, and Lakewood, the CLA has tackled adverse weather conditions, ensuring safety by staying close to shore. Despite the challenges, 34 truckloads of weeds were removed in just the past week.
Over the last nine weeks, CLA crews have cleared more than 6 million pounds of weeds from the lake, marking a significant improvement over last year. These removed weeds are then transported to local farms for use as fertilizer.
Weekly harvest reports detailing the CLA’s activities are available on their website, providing transparency and accountability for their efforts.
