(WNY News Now) – Chautauqua County – A coordinated effort by Chautauqua County law enforcement successfully targeted impaired drivers over the holiday weekend.
Chautauqua County police agencies actively participated in the New York State STOP-DWI 4th of July High Visibility Engagement Campaign from July 3 to July 7, 2024. Funded by a 2023-2024 grant from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, this initiative is part of a broader national effort to reduce impaired driving incidents.
Throughout the campaign, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, local municipal law enforcement, and New York State Police collaborated to enforce laws against driving while impaired. The campaign resulted in 103 vehicle stops, 38 traffic tickets, and 2 DWI arrests.
“Removing intoxicated drivers from Chautauqua County roadways is one of our top priorities,” stated Chautauqua County Sheriff James B. Quattrone. “If you choose to drink, don’t drive. Impaired drivers not only put themselves in danger but also threaten everyone who shares the road with them.”
The Chautauqua County STOP-DWI Program, funded by fines collected from convicted drunk drivers, underscores the county’s commitment to ensuring safer roads for all. This campaign exemplifies the ongoing efforts to minimize the number of impaired driving injuries and fatalities by maintaining high visibility and strict enforcement.
