(WNY News Now) – Mayville – Chautauqua County Sheriff James Quattrone held a press conference today where he announced that JPD officer Michael Watson is no longer considered a person of interest in the 2004 disappearance and murder of 25 year-old Yolanda Bindics.
Yolanda Bindics, a 25-year-old mother of four, was initially reported missing on August 10, 2004, after she failed to return home from her shift at the Family Dollar store on Fluvanna Avenue in Jamestown. Her remains were discovered two years later in Boutwell Hill State Forest in Charlotte. Her death was subsequently ruled a homicide.
During a press conference on Wednesday, September 4th, 2024, Chautauqua County Sheriff James Quattrone provided updates on Yolanda Bindics’ unsolved murder. JPD officer Michael Watson was initially considered a person of interest, along with Clarence Carte, the father of Bindics’ youngest child.
However, following an extensive investigation that included 176 interviews since June 2022, as well as re-analysis of evidence gathered from Bindics’, Watson’s, and Carte’s vehicles and surveillance footage, Sheriff Quattrone announced that Michael Watson is no longer considered a person of interest in the case. The investigation now remains focused on Clarence Carte, the remaining person of interest in the case.
Newly revealed surveillance footage shows Carte leaving a Kwik Fill store on Fluvanna Avenue and Washington Street at the same time Bindics was working across the street.

They have also released a photo of Carte’s vehicle, a Dodge Durango, seen below.

The Sheriff’s Office has also released drone footage of Boutwell Hill State Forest, where Bindics’ remains were discovered in September 2006.
