(WNY News Now) – Mayville, N.Y .- Chautauqua County Grand Jury indicts two Jamestown residents on charges of methamphetamine exchange inside jail, sparking new legal battles for both.
On August 22, 2024, Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt revealed that a Grand Jury has indicted Debbie Hires, 57, and Randall Rolison, 61, both of Jamestown, on charges of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree and Promoting Prison Contraband in the First Degree.
The indictment alleges that on March 7, 2024, while Mr. Rolison was housed at the Chautauqua County Jail, Ms. Hires delivered methamphetamine to him during a visit. The quick intervention of Corrections Officers led to the retrieval of the illegal substance from Mr. Rolison, preventing its distribution within the facility. Following the incident, an investigation was conducted by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigation Division.
At the time of the alleged drug exchange, Mr. Rolison was days away from being transferred to the custody of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, where he was to begin serving a sentence for two fatal motor vehicle accidents. Rolison was convicted in June 2023 for these accidents, adding complexity to his legal circumstances.
Ms. Hires appeared before Judge David Foley on September 4, 2024, where she pled not guilty. She was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled for an Omnibus conference on November 8. Mr. Rolison was produced from Attica Correctional Facility for his arraignment on September 9, 2024, where he also pled not guilty. His Omnibus conference is set for November 12.
District Attorney Schmidt extended gratitude to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, particularly acknowledging the vigilance of the Corrections Officers whose swift actions prevented further escalation of the incident.
