(WNY News Now) – Buffalo – Raymond J. Torres, 35, of no permanent address, was arraigned in Buffalo City Court on one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class “A-I” felony. Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced the charge following the incident that left a 35-year-old man dead.
According to authorities, the shooting occurred around 4:20 a.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2024. Buffalo Police officers responded to a report of gunfire near Jersey and 7th streets. The victim was transported to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
Torres is accused of shooting the victim with the intent to cause his death. Following the arraignment, he was remanded without bail and is scheduled to appear in court for a felony hearing on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.
If convicted, Torres faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison. Acting DA Keane praised the Buffalo Police Department’s Homicide Squad and Gun Violence Unit for their efforts in the ongoing investigation.
Chief Gary W. Hackbush and Assistant District Attorney Justin H. Caldwell of the Homicide Bureau are leading the prosecution.
It’s important to note that Torres, like all individuals accused of crimes, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
